Bubble Gum Interactive is teaming up with the crew at Macquarie ICT Innovations Centre, a joint collaboration between Macquarie University and the NSW Department of Education and Communities, to give school students a chance to learn what it’s like to work in the video games industry.
Students can blast off for adventure and explore our amazing new virtual universe Little Space Heroes AND learn about games design at the same time. Little Space Heroes is free to play.
MacICT runs Game Design bootcamps for students and workshops for teachers as a way to shift people’s thinking from viewing themselves as a player to a designer. Primary and High school students across New South Wales have the opportunity to take part in workshops where they playtest games and review these against design criteria such as story, gameplay, challenge and technical factors. Playtesting real games provides an authentic context for learning and helps students see what it’s like to work in the games industry.
Right from our earliest days of development we have included kids and parents in the design process through focus groups, one-on-one testing sessions and interviews. We’ve now of course got the game live and running and kids all around the world have been playing and sharing their ideas, comments, suggestions and of course a few bug reports to us. Beta development means the game isn’t finished yet, and by playing the game and sending in feedback, our beta testers will help with the development of the game. All they need to do is to report on any bugs found during play or make suggestions on how the game could be improved. It’s a great way to continue to involve our audience in the design of the game.
Students are invited to take part in playtesting of Little Space Heroes during our beta and beyond. As playtesters they can provide feedback, suggestions and log bugs and glitches as they play Little Space Heroes.
To become a game tester and play from home, just head to http://www.littlespaceheroes.com and click on the boy, girl or alien hero. Follow the steps to create a free account and start playing. When you want to give feedback simply click the “Feedback” button on the right hand side of the game window and let us know if it’s a bug or a suggestion. Please make sure to include the word “macict” at the beginning of your feedback.
Thanks and happy adventuring!
